I have been facing issues with my Garmin watch for the last few days. It keeps disconnecting from my phone. I have used so many ways to prevent this problem.

I conclude that it’s not only my phone’s fault. This problem is almost due to the Garmin watch. Many Garmin watch series is showing this type of issue.

Because I have tried my headphones and other fitness trackers, but they don’t show connection issues. 

So let’s figure out why the Garmin watch keeps disconnecting from the phone and how to fix it.

If your Garmin watch disconnects from your mobile phone. It can be due to the old software of your Garmin watch and Garmin connect app. Sometimes it can be due to the useless data stored on your devices. When facing this problem, you should ensure that you have installed the latest update on your Garmin watch and the Garmin Connect app. 

Let’s take a deep look at every possible solution to fix your Garmin watch connection problem.

These are some possible reasons for Garmin watch connection problems with their fixes.

Re-Establish Connection

Re-establishing connection can solve the issues of your Garmin watch connectivity. First, you should unpair the Garmin watch from the Garmin connect app and Bluetooth to re-establish the connection.

And then pair your Garmin watch with your Garmin connect app on mobile. 

Follow these steps to pair and unpair the Garmin watch from your phone:

Unpair Garmin watch from Connect App 

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.
  2. Touch on the “three Line” menu from the upper left corner.
  3. Scroll down and select “Garmin Devices.”
  4. Press and hold the Garmin watch “Picture” you want to remove.
  5. Select “Remove Device” from the little Pop-up. 
  6. Select “Remove” to confirm.

Pair Garmin Watch with Connect App 

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone.
  2. Access to the connect app menu.
  3. Select the “Three Lines” menu.
  4. Scroll down to “Garmin Devices.”
  5. Touch “Add Device.”
  6. Select the device that you want to add.

Ensure your Garmin device is in pairing mode. Because if pairing mode enabled it’s help the Garmin Connect app to find it. 

Unpair Garmin device from Bluetooth 

If you have unpair and paired your Garmin watch from Garmin connect app. But it will be connected under the Bluetooth settings. You should also remove the device from Bluetooth. 

You can follow these steps to unpair the Garmin watch from your Bluetooth. Consult your owner’s menu for the specific steps. 

  1. Open the phone settings menu
  2. Select Bluetooth 
  3. Select paired devices
  4. Select the device you want to remove
  5. Select remove/unpair device

And then re-establish the connection from Bluetooth settings in your mobile phone. 

Restart The Garmin Watch And Phone

Restart your Garmin watch, and your mobile phone can benefit your devices. It can remove a few issues with app connectivity and crashing apps. It also refreshes the operating system. 

Follow these steps to restart your devices:

Restart phone

  1. Press and hold the power button (usually, it’s on the top right side).
  2. Hold this button until the power menu appears on the screen.
  3. You don’t need to unlock it. 
  4. Press the “Restart” from the screen. 
  5. Wait for about 1 minute to restart your phone.

If you don’t see the options to restart your android phone, you can do this:

  1. Press and hold the power button.
  2. A power button will appear on the screen.

  4. press the side button to “power on” your phone

Restart Garmin watch

Restarting your Garmin watch is not much difficult. There are two types of Garmin watch; one type of watch has buttons, and others don’t have a power button. Restarting method for both types is described below:. 

If your Garmin watch has buttons

  1. Press and hold the power button until your Garmin watch power off. This has a power icon on it. And it is similar for each Garmin device.
  2. Some Garmin watches have a “control menu” feature. Press and hold the power button release finger when the power off icon “” shows on the screen. Select this power icon to power off your Garmin watch. 
  3. Press and hold the same button to power on the Garmin watch. 

If your Garmin watch does not have buttons 

Some Vivo and Lily models have Garmin watches that do not feature a power button. If you use one of the models, it is different to restart. You can restart it by following these steps

  1. Connect your Garmin watch with an external power source such as a power data cable to restart it.
  2. Plug it into the computer’s power USB port and disconnect it from the cable. 
  3. This can cause an internal restart of your Garmin watch.

Reset The Garmin Watch And Phone

Resetting your device is called “formatting” and “hard resets.” Resetting your android phone and Garmin watch can solve the space issue, crashing apps, Bluetooth connectivity, and Wi-Fi/ hotspot connection.

It can also speed up your device. 

Reset android phone

Follow the steps below to reset your android phone:

  1. Select the settings app
  2. Scroll down to the “system.” 
  3. Select “system”
  4. Find the “reset” option
  5. Here you see different reset options
  6. Select the reset option which you want

It can be different for the other phones. If this does not work for your phone. You can contact your smartphone support to reset it. 

Reset Garmin watch

Performing a reset to your Garmin watch is described below. You can follow these instructions to reset your watch.

  1. Ensure your Garmin watch is Powered off/power off the Garmin watch 
  2. Press and hold the “Back/ Lap” button 
  3. Power on your Garmin watch while holding the “Back/Lap” button
  4. Release the “Back/Lap” button when (clear user data?) message appears
  5. Select “yes” to confirm 

Note: when the watch completes the reset, place the Garmin watch outside with the clear sky minimum 20 minutes to acquire the satellite data.

Update Garmin App

Sometimes your Garmin connect needs an update. If you have not updated your Garmin connect app, you can face issues, e.g., the Garmin app shows the wrong time and date, the Garmin watch is not connecting to the app, and it keeps disconnecting. 

You should check the latest update for the Garmin connect app. If there is any update available, install it at that time.

If your Garmin watch has disabled the automatic update. To enable this settings you can follow the steps below:

  1. Select “settings” 
  2. To start or stop any project, select “start/stop
  3. Select “system” to get access to the system
  4. Scroll down to the end of menu and see “software update.”
  5. Turn it on/off to enable/ disable automatic update

Update manually

  1. Press and hold the top button to access the system menu
  2. Select start/stop by scrolling down

  6. Touch it to conform to this update  

Update Your Phone

Update your smartphone software if you still did not get rid of this problem. To overcome the Bluetooth and internet connection problems, update your mobile software. It’ll make your device faster and remove tiny issues which are not noticeable to a user.

  1. Connect to the Wifi. 
  2. Open the Settings app. 
  3. Select “about phone.”
  4. Check here for the latest update. If any update is available to update button will show.
  5. Select “install now.”  

Turn Off And On Bluetooth

It is recommended that you “tun off and then turn on” Bluetooth if you face a Bluetooth connectivity problem. All devices have a Bluetooth button in the settings app. 

You can access it by following the below steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone
  2. Touch the “wireless and network” or “network and Bluetooth.” option
  3. Here you can enable and disable the Bluetooth

Some android devices such as Samsung, Vivo, Motorola Moto X, and Huawei have Bluetooth toggle button shortcuts on the status bar drop-down menu.

Move Near Bluetooth  

If your Garmin watch does not remain connected to your phone, you should keep the Garmin watch and phone nearer them.

It can disconnect due to the Bluetooth weak signals. For most devices, the Bluetooth range is 30 feet (10 meters). Keeping your Garmin watch and mobile phone within this range can keep your watch and phone connected. 

Sometimes you can experience the disconnectivity issue in this maximum range. Because this range can be affected by environmental and other factors (e.g., air, buildings, metal, and radio waves).
